There’s always fun to be had out en las calles! The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) held their Bike Show and Sound Off in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana at Calle Ocho!
I’m way more interested in cars: but I couldn’t turn down an opportunity to learn more about any audio scene. I figured the differences would be purely technical, but it’s a different world out there.
Maverick Custom Motorsports supplied Gustavo, Jorge, Kenny (from KK Customs), and me with three super impressive demo bike builds. I couldn’t help but test them out. It was validating to see everything we recommend for motorsports audio systems delivered on a competitive level!
I couldn’t really tell what products were on each of the bikes but based on looks alone our builds were by far the most impressive.
Our airbrushed bike had a sleek finish and a huge 34-inch wheel – so I felt great going into the competition. From the sidelines, I watched as bike after bike played their songs for the crowd, and I was sure we would end up winning. Until I realized that the judges and I weren’t looking for the same things.
We didn’t do too bad for our first bike show. We left with an award for the support we’ve shown the scene over the years. No one from our team was looking to compete though; we just couldn’t get a good grasp on what was separating the winners from the losers.
As a newbie, I wanted to remain respectful, especially since Richard Santiesteban, was kind enough to put this event together and extend the olive branch to get the DS18 team into this side of the audio scene.
Anyone could complain though, I plan on investing even more. The FOP Bike Show inspired me to go even deeper into the bike audio scene. I want to make my mark and hopefully, bring a new spirit to the bike scene.
The acceptance I got from everyone was so encouraging. There was no particular reason I hadn’t been to any bike shows, but now I have no reason not to go. I can’t wait until the next one so I can show these boys how it’s done!
